Look inside the case of Dell OptiPlex 980 MT vs OptiPlex 990 MT

New one is missing this big passive cooler. As far as I can say its not louder or I can't hear a difference.

  1. The 980 is actually a nicer case I think. I mean, they're pretty much identical, but I kind of like the idea of having the 3.5 external drive. I'm not really sure why they decided to eliminate that. (guess it saved money)

I don't even really know what that extra internal 3.5 drive bay is for in the 990, if you can even call it that. I guess you could attach an extra 3.5 hard drive in there on one side, and have it loosely dangling on the inside most part... heh.

  2. The extra internal 3.5 drive bay is for maintenance. If the hard drive give you a "blue screen of death" during use, just disconnect the optical drive and connect the failed drive to those cables. Install your ghosted replacement drive where the failed drive was and start the computer and copy the user's data you need from the old disk to the new.

    * Be sure to run a virus check on the old drive to avoid sneaky Trojans.

  3. I'm not sure about the second shot, but the first one is definitely in mirror mode. The motherboard in this model is BTX standard and on this picture looks like ATX.

  4. Hey just wanted to give you a brief heads up and let you know a few of the picutres aren't loading correctly. I'm not sure why but I think its a linking issue. I've tried it in two different web browsers and both show the same outcome .
